Spelt is a seed used by our ancestors which is related to wheat. It fell out of use in the 19th century but has been revived in recent times as its nutrition benefits have become known. It is becoming a popular alternative to wheat as it gives bread, cakes a nuttier flavour than wheat. It is also high in fibre, magnesium, Vitamin B3 and other vitamins and minerals.
Also excellent as a soup and sprinkled on salads for extra taste and nutrition.
